And the Seasons, They Go Round and Round

It's peli time again and unlike some former years, they are busy in the bay. Or maybe, being in bed with the tourist flu has me listening more. The heavy thudding splash of their bodies on the water is loud, loud and enticing. I must obey the urge to see them again.

Ungainly, awkward, precise, gravity defying, balletic. All true. The bird makes no sense at all and yet, there it is. Over and over again. I'm addicted. Still and again.

This is a move I'm getting to love. The Kangaroo hop.

Crash!

Serenity

I always wonder what they see that brings about this leap. Obviously, it's food but do they SEE the fish or are they just having a hunger pang?

Did I mention gravity defying?
This one was streaking around the 'corner'

There is a little cove break in the mangroves where occasionally a peli will jump in or jump out. 'Surprise!'

This bird seems to have some sort of twitchy thing happening with its wings. I hope it is okay.

Did I mention...

What a gift...to be unperturbed no matter what sort of hullabaloo is going on next to you.

Winter weather is so wonderful here. I think of those fall and early winter days in Florida and while I know there are lovely winter days there, it is nothing like home.

Have a wistful wending way through Wednesday. Do something winged.

They're Baaaaaccccckkkkk!

Last year, the pelicans seemed to be avoiding my bay and this year they are avoiding it still. But at the bottom of my yard, where it is more open, a few of the yutes are having a fine time, entertaining me in the bargain. Their swirling, whirling, diving, splashing fishing style, always the same, always different, is mesmerizing. Funny old bird, the pelican...

Another beautiful day in Paradox!

Have a tactical Thursday! Do something therapeutic.

Nobody here but us peli's

Monday Monday...etc. There really are some humans here who do my heart good as well, and more on the way. But for now, we have these pelicans, who I totally anthropomorphize and that's just how that is!

Where did those houses come from??

I'm SO not scared of you on your dinghy 5 feet away from me

Keeping my head above water...how about you?

Digging in, beak deep

White water splash

Jajajajaja...did you see that??

Walking on water

My life in a seashell

I can fly I can fly I can fly!

and outta here...

My last night on the hill, and life begins a new roll of the seasons. Let's see where the dice fall.

From the moon to the music

Last night's full moon kept getting caught in the trees. It was blindingly bright, scattering leaf reflections like sparkler firefly stars.

Dawn's colors - a subtle flare on sky and water that wasn't really subtle at all...

As I was lugging my now fixed dinghy engine (thank you Keekay - spelled wrong, heart right) down the yard, I saw 3 black parrots up in the acacia tree. The camera was only feet away but they flew before I could capture them digitally. The hummingbird was too far in shadow, the sugar quit too flit obsessed. And the thrush, I'd really like to shoot. So it was back to my I'm-never-tired-of-them pelicans.

A Culebra Sunday on the water. It's going to be a good day.

The Pelican Not So Brief

Watching pelicans is often my drug of choice. Today they were being particularly balletic...don't forget you can click on the pic to make it larger. But you can't go in the water, sorry. As for the guy in the sailboat: I have no idea who he is...I just liked the light on the sail when he was way out in the bay. And then he kept coming in, and coming in and then pulled up his centerboard and went all the way into the top of the bay and disappeared. Strange..but interesting (3 points if you remember that line!).

My name is MJ. I'm a peliholic. And I'm not ashamed.

One other note...the weather around here is heating up in more ways than one...check your lists, friends and neighbors.
