Super Bowl Sunday and too much more

Today is Super Bowl Sunday for a lot of people...and all of the madness that implies. The good side is that millions of people will be focused on a funny looking ball and two teams beating the crap out of each other for all sorts of reasons other than war (sort of). The bad side is that...oh never mind. I have to go with the Saints, because I love New Orleans, even though I don't know or care much about football (as in, I have no idea who the other team is) other than the commercials and half time, when The Who will be playing. Woo hoo!!!!! Won't get fooled again!

Traditionally since living on Culebra, I spend Super Bowl at Dinghy Dock with friends but particularly my friend Linda, who shares the exact feelings I do about the game. Since there is no bar service, it will be BYOB. I have no doubt Neil will be making apps and the betting pool will be happening with lots of hopes high and dashed and happy as the game goes along. There are plenty of other good places to watch the game; Mamacita's, Aqui mi queda, etc. May the best team win...and may the sound be good for The Who!

Yesterday Culebra had its own victory at the muellecito over Victor Gonzalez, who has been trying to steal the beach for years now. I wasn't there, because of that funky little thing called work, but other faithful were there and you know who you are. Laurie Knowlton took a lot of photos she is sharing (thank you, Laurie!) of the events of the day. They show the trees he had planted by his henchmen being removed, as well as the boulder(s) that blocked the entrance being buried.
The symbolism is too obvious to elaborate on, so I won't. No dount the arrogant Mr. Gonzalez will not be stopped by something as unimportant as the law (he's suing the mayor, the police, the municipal workers and anyone else he can think of as he jumps around like a frustrated Rumpelstiltskin, assured of his cleverness, enraged at his little park plan gone awry, and doomed to fail playing out a classic evil vs. good. It's a tug of war right now, but as each victory is to be cherished, this is an especially good one.

Have a super Sunday. Do something special.
