it's the little things

i was reading an article titled How to Answer the Question, “What Should I Do With My Life?” from the blog Root Simple. such a big question would seem to call for a big, probably wordy and above my pay grade answer. but it didn't. in fact, it was the essence of simplicity.

“Look at what books are on your bookshelf and do that.”

i'll wait while you scan your books.

ok. mine, a sliver of the thirty or so boxes i used to haul around, are a mixed bag of fiction, cookery, writing, photography (thank you, sue z, for the bulk of those), gardening, sailing and ecological revolution - of a non-violent sort. mostly.

one person's comment on the article was blunt - to the effect that the books owned and loved represented only dreams that the owner knew would never be moved toward, let alone fulfilled. honest and sad at the same time, i wanted to ask whywhywhy? i also know there are as many reasons spanning the spectrum of because - some valid (caring for another human being is usually tops of that list) to not so much (fear of either success or failure) - as there are colors in the wheel.

time passes, regardless, minute by minute, day by day, year by year. we're just little dots on the landscape,  reflecting a bigger or smaller light. don't live in the dark.

look at your bookshelf. if you haven't begun, begin.

it's the little things.

have a start soon saturday. do something simple.
