Something Old, Something New

Obviously, at least to me and a few friends who put up with my first world whinging, the houseboat is taking awhile to get put back together. Each completed effort is a huge milestone; I know the boat is sturdy because when I'm by myself there is a fair amount of joyful jumping and dancing around. I'm blessed with amazing people helping me (ok, they do all the work, I am a grateful cheerleader).

One thing that happened yesterday was almost finished new cushion covers. The old ones, once upon a time a most likely pricey custom job of plasticky, rubbery stuff, had become pretty hideously icky. I am not a seamstress but I know a few! Sally put her talented self to work and whipped up these covers tout suite. I was tasked with cutting - yes, I can do that - and wrapping batting, along with getting them on the old foam, which was still just fine under the ugh.

Not quite finished but I couldn't wait to see how they look.
Soon, curtains and...well, let's just get these cushions done.
All that stuff under the table is electrics not yet in place or destined to go somewhere eventually. Pretty much.

The story of the two patterns is that I didn't let Sally know there were TWO sets of cushions. Oopsy. So she had the set up for the stripes for one set...when I said, will there be enough for the other? The other? she asked. No problem. We dug around some more and found a closely corresponding color match and went touristy, checks with stripes. I like it. Ok, I really love it. Color me stripey happy.

Here's something to know about Culebra. The library is FULL of wonderful surprises. There is material and crafts and sewing machines and people to help. There is yarn and embroidery thread and hooks and needles and lots of other stuff all for the using. I donated some material that I like and have hauled around with me but won't use in exchange for what I used and will also donate some money to continue this good thing. As Sally sewed, quite a few people coming in and out asked about lessons. Volunteers are more than welcome to gift others with their experience, just call or go to the library, one way or another. If you already know how to sew but don't have a machine, or have some other thing you might be interested in, check out the library. They might have just what you need!

Just another pretty boat
St. Thomian friends, remember Angelo?? Remember his crazy boat with the chairs on top that he was going to do charters with? Maybe I already mentioned this, but it's here. In my front yard. And has been for a long time; I just didn't know it was his old boat until recently. It's a happy way to start the day, when thinking about him almost breaks past smiling most of the time, straight into laughter.

Morning was breaking

Magic morning light
Have a trouble free Thursday. Do something tantalizing.

  1. Well, this is what *I* have to say about it:

    Morning Has Broken

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word

Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Prase for them springing fresh from the Word
