Labor Day and a Yard Sale...that works

Labor Day Parade, Union Square, New York, 1882
Today is Labor Day. According to an article in Wikipedia:The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations",[1] followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.[1]

There is, of course, a certain irony here, being as the trade and labor organizations, well...you know all of that. So let the barbecue's begin! Or...you could be laboring. In which case, be thankful; too many others wish they were.

We're having a yard sale, for those looking for deals in this time of leaner wallets. In America, yard sales, garage sales, estate sales are common to the point of overwhelming. They can be full of junk or full of treasures. Ours has some of both. Yard sales on Culebra are rare; usually the sisters twice yearly sales are the ones we look forward to. Thrift stores don't exist, and deals of any kind are spread about by word of mouth like wildfire, so this is a departure for me; a fun departure.

Here is a sneak peek. From slightly porno to printers, kitchen ware, a WWII hat complete with 1940's newspaper stuffing, furniture to sleeping bags and lots in between...

The plates are plaid. You know you want them!

Yes, the Mac Classic still works! You can wear the WWII hat and send out orders of peace.

I love this coffee grinder!

If you still want to be a Scout, now's your chance to do it officially. Sort of.

Need a sleeping bag?
How are your needlepoint skills coming along?
The moon is not for sale. Yet.

Have a mountain of bbq Monday! Do something mindless.
