Tiny Home Tuesday ~ Some Student Tiny Home Bling!

Once upon a time not so long ago, the phrase tiny house had, like so many phrases and words, a very different meaning than it does today. Fables, playhouses, poverty and why? come to mind. But we live in today, where creative minded students have grown up with the idea of tiny homes being a viable way to live well on the planet (despite the fact that most of the world already has been doing this a long, long time).

In Atlanta, The Savannah College of Art and Design has put together three tiny homes (135 square feet each) in, of all places, a parking garage. There is a lot to see and read, along with many more of photojournalist Hyosub Shin's photos to be seen in the article here. I chose these because they are the ones I've come back to again and again.

Students moving in for a month of tiny home living. I really like this part!

The homes are, not surprisingly, wired up and wired in. Let there be light!

Not a good bathroom for 'the morning after' but I like the sink and floating toilet.

Traditional, industrial and space age work well here. Especially if you like to play with crayons.

Remember, these are art projects as well as an expression of tiny homes. Look beyond the frou frou or be inspired by it, there's a lot going on here that's practical.

Check out the flooring made of old yard sticks.

I'm a kitchen freak and while large is fun, this would work. I have lived with not much more space for a long time and it can be done. I'd love to see what those shiny units contain. I'm jealous in what I imagine them to be.

This wall is what made me stop and start really seeing what I was seeing.

I love this sink. And the fixtures too.

High ceilings DO make a difference

I think I'd have a Japanese soaking tub here, though standing would be better when using the shower head as a microphone for some in-shower songfests
A little outside the parking garage box in the city. Well done fun, students! Thanks to Debbie Newmark for sharing this with me. She's going to check it out in person next week, I'll await the first person report.

Today is Earth Day! and living well on the Earth is a good thing to think about. Do that. Then do something for the planet you happen to live on. Doing away with plastic water bottles in your life is a good start. Take it away!

Have a touch the terra Tuesday. Do something tinily tremendous.

  2. I have been wondering why you don't do a write up about Culebra tiny homes for the Tiny Home Blog?
Start with Jessie's A-Frame and go from there, Bill

    1. I love the idea of covering Jesse's A frame, if he's open to that. I guess I've just felt a little nervous about being intrusive, but you're right, I need to step up to the plate on our own home turf with so many excellent tiny and small homes. Thanks for the kick in the arse, Bill!
