Kim...

Your pain is over. Ours, in this new strange reality, begins, tempered with all the good memories of why you leave such a large space in our lives. Balance doesn't mean fair.
Love you, girl.

I think of you often
I remember that last day
and I kiss your shadow.

Not only was Kim one of my sweetest friends, she also had my grandbird, Ditto. I grieve for a life so shortened.

  4. I'm so glad you got to see Ditto then, Terri...and yes...that is our grief, very much. But I'll tell you a tiny story that might make you ache smile. My business being on the corner, tourists come up and some have said (because Ditto has been at the bike shop) "there sure is a noisy bird there!" and I say, yes, that is our friend Kim's bird...she left us last week." And they get reeallllllyyyyyyy quiet. But one person said, with no hesitation, just so easily - and I wanted to crush them in love hugs but I didn't - "Her bird is grieving for her...that is the sound." It was so beautiful and I couldn't say anything...but they knew.

  5. Kim and I were on the phone one time, and Ditto was jealous because we were talking, so he started mocking Kim, and she put the phone up for me to hear. He said "blah blah blah blah blah blah, AH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH". We both laughed as well. I miss her laugh the most.

  6. Great story, Denise, I'll share it with some others tomorrow if they don't know it already. Just reading your last line, I could hear her laugh. I wish I really could hear it. We miss her very much, all the time. Thanks for sharing this.
