Don't Forget!

Fuggedaboutit, we can't fix everything!
First, a reminder! The annual AWC (Animal Welfare of Culebra) auction is this Saturday, so mark your brains and your calendars! The following is from Mary, one of the many tireless workers of AWC.

Hola,

I am overwhelmed by the generosity of this community.  Donations for the Animal Welfare of Culebra have poured in, and I know that you all support the efforts of the work that AWC does for the animals of Culebra.

This years Raffle Grand Prize is a 3 day, 2 night stay at Hampton Inn & Suites in San Juan.

Hope to see you all at the AWC Auction this Saturday, February 11th at 2pm.  It's at the Community Library this year, across from El Eden.  Mary Wiedner

I was having a conversation the other day with someone who was asking if it really matters, the money going to AWC, in making a difference in the animal situation here on Culebra. I can say, living here about ten years, that I've seen the difference this organization has made, in educating people as to the benefits of spaying and neutering, in the growth of those who take their pets to the vet clinics (when the vet(s) can get here), in fostering and placing so many animals who otherwise wouldn't have a chance.

Are the animal welfare problems all solved? Of course not. Only yesterday morning, a dog that had been poisoned was lying dead, across the street from my house. There are kittens and pups still being born and dying. There are still horses roaming around at the mercy of people scaring them, hitting them and generally not caring for them. But, the work goes on and little by little, it gets better.

BIG bonus!! Just saw this in my email, from Pam's list (like craigslist, but for us, better). Maybe you don't need such a voucher, but if you know someone who does, let them know!

AWC (Animal Welfare of Culebra) has free vouchers for spay/neuter + vaccines. Any cat/dog that we can spay/neuter today =less puppies/kittens on the roads tomorrow.

Please call me at 787-235-6736 for vouchers!
Thanks,
Terrie

Spring is starting to show up around here. Ok, things bloom year 'round, but here is some of what is happening now.

A lot of times when people ask me how to get to where I'm selling bread, I'll say, go over the hill, like you are going to Genesis...and they will say, 'What's Genesis?'. Genesis, which is pronounced Henesis, is my neighborhood colmado, selling everything from snacks, to canned goods to frozen meats to ice cream to car accessories. They are open on Sunday until about 5, and the rest of the week until 6. Turn left at the big white rock and go to the end of the street. You are there!

Have a todo bien Thursday! Do something teachable.

  1. I can also attest to the good that AWC has done for the community. While there are still animals roaming the street, and atrocities occurring that I hate to hear about, it has seemed to me in recent years that there are less roamers/strays.
