Look Up, Look Down, Look All Around

First of all, some optimistic news from the H-word folks! Thanks, Suzanne, for bringing this to our attention.

From Colorado State:
EXTENDED RANGE FORECAST OF ATLANTIC SEASONAL HURRICANE ACTIVITY AND LANDFALL STRIKE PROBABILITY FOR 2012
We anticipate that the 2012 Atlantic basin hurricane season will have reduced activity compared with the 1981-2010 climatology. The tropical Atlantic has anomalously cooled over the past several months, and it appears that the chances of an El NiƱo event this summer and fall are relatively high. We anticipate a below-average probability for major hurricanes making landfall along the United States coastline and in the Caribbean. However, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them, and they need to prepare the same for every season, regardless of how much activity is predicted.

Of course, the last line is the most important one. And now is as good a time as any to begin to restock your supplies, a can or two here of food, a bottle or two of water, a pack of batteries, etc. Look for sale items, because waiting until the last minute will not get you any deals. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, as usual!

The ferreteria RandaLuz is only a short walk from where I live and as I've mentioned before, it's the best thing ever to have in the neighborhood. Hardware of many sorts, hoses, resins, tools and much more, along with cigarettes and a variety of alcoholic beverages all within walking distance and mostly at a good price.

Now, the gigantic dumpster is also along the way to the store. It needs a) a concrete pad to sit on, so the rain doesn't turn it into a mess no one can get near to dump their garbage and b) a proper dumpster with a gate in it so one doesn't have to be either 8 feet tall or have arms of superpowers to actually get trash into the bin, instead of some in and some scattered all around it, right down to the water's edge. Yes, I've mentioned this before, but I'll keep mentioning it until something gets done and then celebrate. It's not like they don't make them. In the meantime...

Dump sightings:

This chair WAS at the site, but when I saw it and checked and nothing was wrong with it except its scruffy appearance (why, I'm pretty sure, it was set off to the side; a lot of us do that, when setting aside still usable items so anyone can recycle them) and finding it unbroken, I grabbed it and took it right back home before getting to the store as I've no doubt that it would have been gone on the way back if I'd waited.

There is a wonderful paint now for exactly this sort of plastic that will make this chair good as new. It's a bit different that other ones I've seen and comfortable too. Score!

Kitties doing the best they can to stay alive. I did not take them home. Every dump has its strays, sadly.
I didn't take these home either.

Further on, tree balls.

One very beautiful coconut palm
Back in my yard, the work has continued on the dinghy, fiberglass on the bottom is done, a bit of gelcoat and today Bonilla hopes clean up the extra glass, then turn her over and finish up the inside of the rails. If the weather holds, she'll be done by the end of the week. I'm getting excited here, slowly. Painting her is going to be fun!

These plants don't bloom very often but when they do, the blossom is so delicate and beautiful.

Which brings us to this morning, a pastel dawning with a high surf advisory in effect until 6 p.m. so be careful out there, swimmers and boaters, including you kayakers!

The moon will be full tomorrow night, which will be the start of the very big Semana Santa weekend. That's a word of warning, as well as a word of look up and enjoy the beauty!

Have a treasures from trash Thursday! Do something thankfully.
