Last Dawn from the Hill (for now)

Every morning at the top of the hill has been a study in delicious dawnings (thanks, Chuck, for the dawn/sunrise distinction!). But it is also very good to be home, at bay level. The on and off rains have kept the garden happier than plain waterings, so everything is bright shiny happy. The cat isn't really sure what I'm doing here but she's not asking any questions either - yet another reason to have a cat versus a dog.

Some morning visions...

Kelli is going to be so excited that her lily bloomed! Shhhh, don't tell!

This is WAY late but better late than never. With enough help, we can catch up! There is a site that can be used to help with stray animals, called The Animal Rescue Site. It is kin to the breast cancer/rainforest/educate children/feed the hungry awareness sites. The extra jazz with this one is that the Vieques Animal Shelter (who have worked with our animals and humans) is up for a donation from them if they get enough votes. Right now they could use the votes, which you can do once a day until Octorber 2nd.! Here's how it works: go to the site, click the button. Then when the next screen shows up, scroll down until you see VOTE! Click on that. Put PR into the state box and scroll down to the Vieques Animal Shelter box. Click on Vote. It took longer to type all of that than it does to actually do it (and I type fast!), so give them a hand. Maybe next year we can get on it ourselves!

September must be my time for things to happen. So I forgot that yesterday, beside being my grandson's birthday, was also the 1 year anniversary of this blog. It is also sometime around now that I opened the cart as Island Woman (after Barefoot Contessa and Saucy Contessa) 4 years ago. Happy Anniversary to me!

  1. Well, Happy Anniversary!!! Beautiful sky. I might have to send you a picture I have of the cart. I use the image on greeting cards often. Oops, I hope that's okay!

  2. Send it along, I'd love to see it. And of course it's okay! However...if you start selling them, we'll have to talk ;)

  3. Well, share the dawn/sunrise distinction with us. We're never too old to learn something from Chuck!

Happy Anniversary! My only complaint is there are too many pictures! Kidding! Keep on keeping on. . .

  4. Thanks!

DAWN, n. The time when men of reason go to bed. Certain old men prefer to rise at about that time, taking a cold bath and a long walk with an empty stomach, and otherwise mortifying the flesh. They then point with pride to these practices as the cause of their sturdy health and ripe years; the truth being that they are hearty and old, not because of their habits, but in spite of them. The reason we find only robust persons doing this thing is that it has killed all the others who have tried it.

Oh wait, that's not right! Dawn is the first light of the day, sunrise is the first appearance of the sun in the dawn. He didn't really put it that way, but that's what I got out of what he said. And since you obviously know someone named Chuck (they are all sturdy and steady and wise and amusing - well except for that one Chuck, who was just sturdy), you know he's right!
